Rodarte-x-Maggie-Cheung

Today, we travel back in time and revel in the poetic short film by Wing Shya, a renowned Hong Kong-based photographer who is famous for his cinematic approach in photography, as well as his exclusive photography works for Wong Kar Wai‘s films ‘In the Mood for Love’ and ‘Happy Together’, to name a few.

Produced in a collaboration with critically-acclaimed fashion label Rodarte, luxury brand SWAROVSKI ELEMENTS, and famous actress Maggie Cheung, the 4-minute long, stylistic film wasted no time in delivering a dreamy atmosphere to the viewers.

Right from the very start, it captivates viewers’ emotions through a series of slow-motion movements from Cheung. She emotes a sense of sadness and a feeling of poignancy as she sways and moves her body languidly, whilst dressed in four one-of-a-kind creations – specially handmade by Rodarte designers, Kate and Laura Mulleavy for the film – on land and in the waters.

The film is accompanied by a relaxing yet powerful soundtrack by award-winning music composer Peter Kam

The film was originally released as part of a unique charity programme by Hong Kong fashion retailer JOYCE  in aid of UNICEF that ran from 23 to 31 March 2010.

This article is also part of Couture Troopers’s #CelebratingTheLanguageOfFashionThroughArt, a newly-minted curatorial series where we put together a discerning selection of works (of art) that celebrates the language of fashion in the 21st Century.
